Why is this medication prescribed?
Pindolol is in a group of drugs called beta-blockers, and is used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure).
This medication works by relaxing the blood vessels so the heart doesn't have to pump as hard. It is effective alone or in combination with other high blood pressure medications, particularly with a thiazide-type diuretic. This medication may be also used to treat angina pectoris. The use of pindolol in the treatment of instable angina may be less effective compared to beta blockers without ISA (Intrinsic Sympathomimetic Activity).
